Infectious diseases
Infectious diseases are conditions that can be passed from a mother to her baby during pregnancy. These include:
- hepatitis B
- syphilis
- human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
Screening for infectious diseases usually occurs as early as possible, but can be done at any point in the pregnancy.
Women can find out more about infectious diseases on the NHS Inform website.
