Reference laboratory referral guide for confirmation of unusual organism/antimicrobial resistance profiles

The ‘Reference laboratory referral guide for confirmation of unusual organism/antimicrobial resistance profiles’ has been developed by ARHAI Scotland in conjunction with members of the Scottish Microbiology and Virology Network (SMVN), Public Health Scotland (PHS) and Reference Laboratories throughout the UK to provide guidance relating to the referral of isolates suspected to be unusual phenotypes, identified by diagnostic laboratories.

The list of unusual organism/antimicrobial resistance profiles is an amended version of the European Committee of Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) unusual phenotypes and is linked to Appendix 13 (Table 6) of the Scottish National Infection Prevention & Control Manual (NIPCM).
