National Patient Safety Alert – NatPSA/2024/002/NHSPS

A new international standard for small bore connectors (ISO 80369) was developed in 2010. This included a dedicated connector for neuraxial applications (NRFit, ISO 80369-6). Access to a full portfolio of NRFit devices and supply chain fragility has delayed the full implementation of NRFit in the NHS. However, industry throughout the UK has now adopted NRFit. Planning and risk assessment should therefore now proceed to facilitate the most appropriate and safe process for transition and to monitor implementation.
