Request

I have been asked by one of the MSPs if information is published for NHS Scotland - similar to that reported by NHS Digital:

  1. Estates and Facilities RIDDOR incidents
  2. Estates and facilities related incidents of which:
  • related to Critical Infrastructure Risk
  • related to Non-Critical Infrastructure Risk
  • related to other.
  1. Clinical service incidents caused by estates and infrastructure failure of which:
  • caused by estates and infrastructure failure related to Critical Infrastructure Risk
  • caused by estates and infrastructure failure related to non-Critical Infrastructure Risk
  • caused by estates and infrastructure failure - other.
  1. Overheating occurrences triggering a risk assessment (in line with trust's "heatwave" plan).
  2. Flood occurrences triggering a risk assessment.
  3. It looks like this information may be collected in Datix. Any information you have on this would be really appreciated.

If you are unable to help with this enquiry, I’d be grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

Response

We have now completed the search of our records and can provide you with the following information:

I have been asked by one of the MSPs if information is published for NHS Scotland - similar to that reported by NHS Digital:

Under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act 2002 (FOISA), an organisation does not have to provide that information if it does not hold it. NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) cannot provide information on behalf of NHS Scotland as we do not capture or publish this data.

NSS records all accidents and incidents through an internal digital platform, Accident Incident Reporting system (AIR), which supports the notification, investigation and management associated with accidents and incidents. This data is not structured, gathered or published in a report format such as the one from NHS Digital.

1. Estates and Facilities RIDDOR incidents

Under Section 17 of FOISA, an organisation does not have to provide that information if it does not hold that information. NSS capture RIDDOR notifiable incidents within the AIR system, however, these are not sub-categorised or specifically identified as Estates and Facilities RIDDOR incidents and therefore, we are unable to provide a total amount of incidents in this area.

2. Estates and facilities related incidents of which:

  • related to Critical Infrastructure Risk
  • related to Non-Critical Infrastructure Risk
  • related to other.

Under Section 17 of FOISA, an organisation does not have to provide that information if it does not hold that information. Not all NSS Estates and Facilities incidents relating to Infrastructure risk are captured within the AIR system, however, the ones that are, have not been sub-categorised or specifically identified as Estates and Facilities incidents and therefore, we are unable to provide a total amount of incidents in this area.

Under Section 17 of FOISA, an organisation does not have to provide that information if it does not hold that information. NSS does not hold any information in relation to clinical service incidents caused by estates and infrastructure failure.

4. Overheating occurrences triggering a risk assessment (in line with trust's "heatwave" plan).

Under Section 17 of FOISA, an organisation does not have to provide that information if it does not hold that information. Not all NSS Overheating incidents are captured within the AIR system, however, the ones that are, have not been sub-categorised and therefore, we are unable to provide a total amount of incidents in this area.

5. Flood occurrences triggering a risk assessment.

Under Section 17 of FOISA, an organisation does not have to provide that information if it does not hold that information. Not all NSS flooding incidents are captured within the AIR system, however the ones that are, have not been sub categorised and therefore, we are unable to provide a total amount of incidents in this area.

6. It looks like this information may be collected in Datix. Any information you have on this would be really appreciated.

Under Section 17 of FOISA, NSS cannot provide any information held on Datix databases as NSS does not use this programme, this is managed by the individual Health Boards (HB). This should be requested direct from HBs using the email addresses below:

I trust you will find the information of assistance and if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
