Response

We have now completed the search of our records and can provide you with the following information:

Under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act, 2002 an organisation does not have to provide the requested information if it does not hold that information. NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) cannot provide details regarding the number of patients as this level of detail is not recorded. We only deliver as far as the Pharmacy Distribution Centre (PDC) in Greater Glasgow & Clyde (GG&C), therefore, we do not have records of which hospitals the products were issued to in that territory.

What we can provide you with is, Appendix 1 – Plasma Products details. This shows the unit measurements and quantities of plasma blood products that were distributed to Scottish Hospitals in 2023.

If any have been left blank, this is because we do not hold any record of these medicines being distributed.

We have provided Appendix 2 – Other blood products details. This shows the unit measurements and quantities of recombinant blood products that were distributed in 2023. We are unable to provide details of which hospital this has been delivered to as we do not hold patient or delivery detail. The local Health Boards (HBs) may be able to provide you with more information regarding the usage of these medicines.

If you wish to contact the local HBs this can be done using the following email addresses:

I trust you will find the information of assistance and if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you are unhappy with any aspect of how we have dealt with your request, you can make representations to us asking us to review the handling of your request.

If you require any further information, please contact Head of Information and Cyber Security, Digital and Security within 40 working days of the date of this correspondence.
