Response
I refer to your freedom of information request that we received on 29 October 2022. I can advise you that we have now completed the search of our records and can provide you with the following information:
Please find attached, Appendix 1 - Coagulation Factor Extract Secondary-Homecare data.
Under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act an organisation does not require to provide information if it does not hold that information. NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) does not hold some of this information as detailed below:
Supply data on appendix 1 shows the volume of product supplied to patients via homecare only, as hospital supply data is unavailable for the period requested. This is due to NSS Procurement, Commissioning and Facilities (PCF) only receiving this data on an ad-hoc basis from an external body, the Commercial Medicines Unit (CMU). We recommend contacting CMU at pharmacyqueries@cmu.nhs.uk or supplier@cmu.nhs.uk who may be able to provide these figures.
The most recent hospital supply data available is included in a previous FOI response that is published on the NSS website. Please see the following link FOI 000098: Volume of coagulation factor distributed to NHS Scotland Hospitals from Jan '22 to Mar '22 | National Services Scotland.
NSS PCF has been unable to retrieve supply data for several of the requested brands detailed within the top line on Appendix 1. This could be due to there being no usage of these brands.
The number of patients by brand has been provided for homecare supply but please note, where the number of patients are fewer than 5, the detail has been redacted under Section 38 (1) (b) of FOISA to ensure no patient identifiable information is released in line with Caldicott Principles.
I trust you will find the information of assistance and if you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
If you are unhappy with any aspect of how we have dealt with your request you can make representations to us asking us to review the handling of your request.
If you require any further information please contact Associate Director Information Security & Governance, within 40 working days of the date of this correspondence.
