Access the Security of Prescription Form Guidance

NHS National Services Scotland has developed this guidance document to provide NHS Boards in Scotland with a framework for the development of policies, procedures and systems to ensure the security of prescription forms against theft and abuse.

This document ensures the security of prescription forms is a key area of action for NHS Scotland.

We have recently updated page 22 of the document to remove the guidance to use red ink to green ink as our current scanners are set to ignore red ink, which means it won't be captured with ICR and any prescriptions written in red ink are sent for re-scan and manually keyed from paper, in order for the community pharmacy to be reimbursed for dispensing the medication.

We are due to get new scanners which will not ignore red ink and anything written in red will show as black.
