Find out if an area is deprived

You can find out if a patient lives in an area of deprivation using the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) tool.

The SIMD tool helps you identify patients that may need different levels of care and enables you to manage their claims more effectively. This tool will be updated twice a year and was last updated on 30 June 2023.

Before you get started

When using postcode analysis, SIMD 1 is listed as being most deprived and SIMD 5 being least deprived.
