The following animation episodes have been developed by the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service’s, Transfusion Team.
This resource is for all clinical healthcare staff involved in shared decision making and the provision of patient information for blood transfusion support.
This resource was developed, in response to the guidelines on patient consent for blood transfusion ,published in December 2020, by the expert advisory committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs ( SaBTO).
The purpose of these recommendations is to enhance standards for the provision of information about blood transfusion.
This includes the identification of which patients should be consented and when the consent process should take place, the importance of obtaining patients consent through shared decision making and the duration of consent .
